Weld, Spitzer and Taxes. (Oh, My)
Republican gubernatorial hopeful William Weld's camp issued this statement on Democratic frontrunner Eliot Spitzer, and taxes:
Weld to Spitzer: Tax Increases Are the Wrong Medicine for New York and Its Economy
New York, NY - Bill Weld today released the following statement criticizing Eliot Spitzer for failing to rule out tax increases for New York, the highest taxed state in the nation. In today's New York Times, Spitzer spokeswoman Christine Anderson said that "Mr. Spitzer has not ruled out raising taxes."
"It is hardly surprising that Mr. Spitzer would leave the door wide open to tax increases, given the array of costly new government 'solutions' he has embraced," Weld said. But this does not change the indisputable fact that tax increases are exactly the wrong medicine for New York State and its economy. New York residents are already subject to the highest taxes in the United States. Do we really want to drive the few remaining good jobs out of Upstate New York and Long Island?"
