From The Left

It's worth noting that a fair degree of anti-Catholic bigotry can be found here and here and here, following the selection of the new pope.

Jonah Goldberg is listening to the BBC and noting:

The long and short of it: The BBC thinks Ratzinger's a racist, knee-breaking Catholic imperialist. When the conversations veered toward various social issues -- gays, abortion etc -- there seemed to be a strong undercurrent of shock that the former Cardinal Ratzinger is -- wait for it! -- Catholic!

Apparently, BBC folks aren't the only ones shocked.

Well, bigotry among the leftists is nothing new. Soviet Union, China, Pol Pot regime, Castro regime are prime examples of anti-religious bigotry. To be fair, there is also bigotry on the right political spectrum but with the exception of some relogious states it has no power. Where left and right are usually united, is in their distate for catholicism. It is absolutely politically to attack catholicism and in the same breath any leftists must utter a prayer "islam is a religion of peace".
