Prosecutors on Long Island have arrested more than a dozen people under the state's Organized Crime Control Act for, they say, a scheme where they stole credit card numbers from people dining at local restaurants, made fake cards, and used the cards to buy and sell swag:
Joseph Cataldo would procure the stolen credit card numbers and deliver them to Nicosia, who would use them to produce counterfeit credit cards with equipment found in his home, including a computer, scanner, and various devices used in the counterfeiting process.
Joseph Cataldo would then distribute the counterfeit cards to Darren D’Amico, Joseph Gissaro, and Tammy Marziliano, who would use them to steal merchandise and services at establishments throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties and in Manhattan.
Gissaro and Marziliano purchased expensive items like hot tubs and generators, then re-sold them for approximately half the retail price. The three also made use of the cards to finance their own extravagant lifestyles, paying for meals and large tips at expensive restaurants, charging gas for their cars and buying personal items at drug stores.
Among other charges, two women were accused of possession of stolen property because they were found with lawn chairs about an hour after the chairs were ripped off, prosecutors say.
